Sullivan honored for athletic and academic excellence at Sage

Albany, NY –The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2014-2015 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2014-2015 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average.

The Sage Colleges' men's golf team captain senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was named the Gator of the Year in men's golf for the second straight year. As a senior in the fall of 2014, Sullivan posted his best round of play at the Skyline Conference Championship as he shot a two-day total of 152 (76-76) and finished in fifth place earning Skyline Conference All-Star First Team status, becoming the most decorated Sage men's golfer in the program's history.

He entered the 2014 Skyline Championship as a three-time Skyline Conference Second Team all-star and caps his career with four Skyline Conference All-Star awards, while also earning acclaim with the 2014 Skyline Conference Sportsmanship Award for Men's Golf. A four-time Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete, Sullivan earned three selections to the Sage Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and was also honored for the second straight year with a posting on Sage's Athletic Honor Roll. He was a medalist twice this past fall and finished the fall season with a 76.33 stroke average, while leading the team.

Head men's golf coach, Ian Pingelski said of Sullivan, "Zach was one of the best representatives of The Sage Colleges' Athletic Department and always represented Sage with great pride throughout his entire career." Pingelski added, "He was a model student-athlete and was the type of player every coach would want leading their team. He will go down as one of the best golfers to ever walk down the fairway's wearing the Sage logo. He accomplished great things while he was playing at Sage, but I know the best of what he is capable of doing is still to come in his playing career."

An accomplished student in the classroom, Sullivan was also named the 2014-3015 recipient of the Dean Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award as the senior male student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. A business major at Sage, he graduated in December with a 3.571 grade point average and is currently a candidate for the 2014-2015 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for his efforts on the course and in the classroom.
