Farmingdale, NY---The Sage Colleges' men's golf team opened play on Sunday in the two-day Skyline Conference Championship at the Bethpage State Park on the Red Course. The two-day event wraps on Monday and will crown the league's 2014 champion that will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship in May.
After one day of play, the Farmingdale State Ram and the St. Joseph's College Golden Eagles stand in first place with scores of 305 for the par 70, 6,800 yard course. Sage stands in third place after combining for a 318 on the afternoon.
Sage has three players in the top ten after the first round led by the play of senior DJ Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) as he shot five over par, a round of 75 and is tied for third. Senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake) is tied for sixth place with a 76, while sophomore Kevin Johnston (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) shot a round of 78 and is tied for 10th place. Sophomore Henry Taylor (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) carded an 89 and is tied for 24th place after opening day.
