Sage takes home second at Sage Invitational

Valatie, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's golf team hosted the Sage Fall Invitational at the Old Kinderhook Golf Course. The College of Saint Rose posted a round of 303 to win the team title while the Golden's Knight's freshman Cullen Spang (LaGrangeville, NY/Arlington) finished as the medalist with his round of 71 for the par-71; 6,310-yard golf course.

Helping the Golden Knights open the season with a tournament victory was freshman Cullen Spang who earned medalist honors with a 73. Following with a 74 was classmate Corey Purcell while senior Chad Baxter (Binghamton, NY/Harpursville) carded a 75.

Rounding out the scoring four for Saint Rose was an 81 for senior Seth Adams (Schenectady, NY/CBA). Junior John Young (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) posted an 88 while sophomore Peter New (Albany, NY/Albany) added a 99.

Leading the way for the Gators, senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake) posted a 75 for the day, while rookie Kevin Johnston (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) finished with a round of 78. Sage's senior captain Richie Christman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up second with a round of 83, while sophomore D.J. Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) carded an 84. Senior Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) fired a round of 88. Also competing for the Gators were a trio of seniors. Gerard Beaudin (Delmar, NY/Home Schooled) had a 92, while Sarah MacArthur (Ancram, NY/Taconic Hills) had a 102 and Jennifer Zoufaly (Latham, NY/Shaker) had a 103.

Competing for the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College was freshman John Melandro (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) who led his team with a round of 75 to tie for third place overall.  Next for St. Joe's was rookie Patrick Waters (Sayville, NY/Sayville) with a round of 79, while sophomore Zac Campanelli (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) fired a round of 82. Junior Sean Sanders (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) connected for a round of 87. Junior Kenneth Ortiz (Centereach, NY/Centereach) had a 93 for the day. 

SUNY-Cobleskill's team posted a score of 332 for the day, while sophomore Eric Kim (Loudonville, NY/Shaker) paced the Fighting Tigers with his 75. Freshman Rafael Mendoza (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) and sophomore Josh Manko (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs) each had an 85, while rookie Nick McGhee (Beech Creek, NY/Central Mountain) had an 87. Sophomore Tyler Van Allen (Central Square, NY/Central Square) posted an 89 on the day.

NJCU's team was led by the play of junior Frank Rivera (Bayonne, NY/Bayonne) with an 87 for the round. Senior Matt Smith (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) added a 94. Senior Steven Pilanski (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) posted a 97, while sophomore Patrick Cardoso (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) had a 98. Senior Alan Walsh (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) rounded out the Gothic Knight golfers with his 99 for the day.
