Gators Edged by Visiting Elmira

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College was upended by visiting Elmira 72-71 this afternoon in the Kahl Campus Center.

The Gators had four players score in twin figures in the Empire 8 Conference matinee.

Sophomore guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) led the way with 22 points, while sophomore forward Todd Williamson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) added 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

Junior guard/forward Jackson Brown (Latham, NY/Catholic Central/Fredonia State) contributed 13 points, while junior forward Tahirou Hamidou (Bronx, NY/Carolina Basketball Academy/Livingstone) registered a double-double of 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 11 rebounds.

Guard Marc Anthony Artuz paced Elmira (5-16/4-10 E8), which led 30-25 at the break, with 18 points. Forward Quintel Clements recorded a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds for the victorious Soaring Eagles.

Looking ahead, RSC (3-17/1-12 E8) plays next on Tuesday at Hartwick. The E8 contest is set to begin at 7:30 pm.


Notes: The Gators, coming off an Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament appearance, graduated all five starters from last season…Nine players, accounting for just 21.22 percent of scoring and 16.82 percent of rebounding, are back…They joined nine newcomers to make up this year's roster…Sophomore guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) and guard Ryan Long (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park), a graduate student, were voted co-captains...Head Coach Brian Barnes, now in his 14th season, began the campaign with a 167-153 overall record.
