RSC Falls at the Buzzer

CASTLETON, Vt. –  Castleton guard Tray Wright, a graduate student, converted a layup at the buzzer to put the host Spartans past visiting Russell Sage College 77-75 tonight in the Glenbrook Gymnasium.

Junior guard/forward Jackson Brown (Latham, NY/Catholic Central/Fredonia State) and sophomore guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) each established career highs of 20 points in the road setback. Junior guard Darvin Lovette (Syracuse, NY/Redemption Christian Academy/Sullivan County CC) added 12 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Todd Williamson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) secured eight caroms.

Castleton (3-2), which led 40-36 at the break, had four players score in double figures in the home win. Wright topped all participants with 22 points, while guard Joe Russell, also a grad student, contributed 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. 

RSC (0-3) wrapped up a stretch of three road games to begin the season tonight. The Gators play their home opener on Saturday afternoon vs. SUNY Poly. The non-conference action is set to commence at 1:00 pm in the Kahl Campus Center. 


Notes: The Gators, coming off an Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament appearance, graduated all five starters from last season…Nine players, accounting for just 21.22 percent of scoring and 16.82 percent of rebounding, are back…They join nine newcomers to make up this year's roster…Sophomore guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) and guard Ryan Long (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park), a graduate student, were voted co-captains...Head Coach Brian Barnes, now in his 14th season, began the campaign with a 167-153 overall record.
