Gators Drop Season Opener

DELHI, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College began its campaign by falling 95-60 at SUNY Delhi tonight.

The Gators (0-1), breaking out a new starting lineup following the graduation of all five starters, had three players score in double figures in their season opener.

Sophomore forward Todd Williamson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) led RSC with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting and eight rebounds. Junior guard/forward Jackson Brown (Latham, NY/Catholic Central/Fredonia State) added 12 points, while junior guard Darvin Lovette (Syracuse, NY/Redemption Christian Academy/Sullivan County CC) netted 10.

SUNY Delhi (1-0), coming off a 20-win season and an appearance in the North Atlantic Conference West Finals, utilized a 12-0 run across a 3:11 span to hold a 41-28 lead at the break. The Broncos, which shot 45.1 percent from the field, had four players score in twin figures. Sophomore guard Lester McCarthy topped all participants with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while senior guard Jacob Beach contributed a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

RSC, beginning the season with three-straight road games, is back in action on Saturday afternoon at Elms. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 pm.


Notes: The Gators, coming off an Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament appearance, graduated all five starters from last season…Nine players, accounting for just 21.22 percent of scoring and 16.82 percent of rebounding, are back…They join nine newcomers to make up this year's roster…Sophomore guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) and guard Ryan Long (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park), a graduate student, were voted co-captains...Head Coach Brian Barnes, now in his 14th season, began the campaign with a 167-153 overall record.
