Three Gators Earn All-Empire 8 Conference Honors

All E8

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College is represented by three players on the Empire 8 Conference men's basketball teams, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

Senior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) earned first-team All-E8 honors for the third-straight season. Borders, who led the Gators in scoring with 15.4 points per-game, ranked third in the Conference with 3.8 assists per-game. The senior, who scored in double figures in 21 of the 26 games this season, became just the fourth RSC player to reach 1,000 career points on February 6 at St. John Fisher. Borders, who registered three double-doubles this season, will graduate third in program records with 1,095 career points.

Senior forward/center Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Tyler Christian School) took home third-team All-Conference accolades. The co-captain averaged 10.1 points on 49.2 percent shooting and 7.2 rebounds. Phair, who sits second in program records with 110 career blocks, recorded two double-doubles this season, including when he tallied 21 points on 52.9 percent shooting and 12 boards in the win vs. Keuka on January 21.

Senior guard Ryan Long (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) made the E8 Sportsmen of the Year Team. Long overcame injuries this season to return to the rotation and provide strong defense and a threat from beyond the arc.

The group helped RSC (13-13) qualify for the E8 Championship Tournament for the third-consecutive season. The Gators, seeded fifth, fell 75-61 at Alfred, the four seed, in the first round on Tuesday night.
