RSC falls in heart breaker to Cobleskill

ALBANY, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY-Cobleskill posted an 85-77 road win to best the Gators of Russell Sage College on Thursday night. With the win, Cobleskill is now 1-6, while the loss puts the Gators at 5-3.

Cobleskill had a 40-33 lead at the half and RSC pulled within four points, down 69-65 with 4:51 left but could not overtake the Fighting Tigers in Kahl Gym despite three players finishing in double digits.

RSC got a game-high 19 points and seven steals from senior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow), while senior guard Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) added 18 points.  Senior guard Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) added 11 points with seven rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in the contest.

SUNY-Cobleskill got 18 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Juwan Malone (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Collegiate), while sophomore forward Naphitali Regilus (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) tallied 15 points with eight rebounds. Rookie guard Sharaim Best (Valley Stream, NY/Elmont Memorial) was 4-7 from three-point range and added 16 points. Junior forward Justin Feldman (Chester, NY/Chester) also hauled in nine rebounds with three assists, a steal and three points.

For the game, RSC had control of the boards as they outrebounded Cobleskill, 52-31, but fell victim to the Fighting Tigers who were hot from three-point range as they made 11 three's.


Notes: Freshman forward Todd Williamson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday...He established career highs of ten points and six rebounds in last week's win at Mount Saint Mary College...The Gators have 11 players back in the fold this year…Senior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow), a two-time first-team All-Empire 8 Conference pick, headlines the group...Borders passed Kai Deans '15 for sixth on the program's career points tonight…Next on the list for the senior guard, now with 830 points, is Jeff Stopera '14 at 860…Senior forward/center Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Tyler Christian School), who ranks third in program annals with 73 career blocks, and senior forward Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) are captains on the year's team…Geronimo now ranks eighth in career rebounding with 366 caroms…Head Coach Brian Barnes, now in his 13th season, added four players to the program.
