Gators triumph on the road in OT, 73-67

NEWBURGH, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College defeated Mount St. Mary 73-67 in overtime on Tuesday night. With the win, the Gators are now 5-1 on the year. MSMC drops to 0-5 on the year.

The game was a back and forth match-up as the Gators held a 57-49 lead at the 4:40 mark, but fell on a scoring drought as the Knights held them scoreless until the 0:25 mark. Senior forward Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) hit a lay-up to give RSC a 60-59 lead. Senior guard Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) (above) hit a three-pointer with 0:05 left in regulation to tie the game at 62-62 and send the game to overtime.

In the overtime, Geronimo made a lay-up at 1:36 followed by a pair of free throws by senior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow), the reigning Empire 8 Conference Co-Player of the Week, at 1:15.  Mitchell buried a three with 0:46 left to give the Gators a 71-65 lead before Geronimo made a pair of free throws to seal the Gators' 73-67 win.

For the game, Geronimo finished with a double-double on 15 points with 13rebounds, while picking up five steals with a pair of blocked shots.  Mitchell netted 12 points with a pair of three's with seven rebounds. Borders added 13 points with a 5-5 effort from the line with four assists.

The Gators struggled from three-point range (3-10), while the Knights shot 52.2% from three-point range converting 12-23 from downtown.

Chris Yearwood led the Knights with 20 points and connected for four three-pointers, while Ryan Graham added 18 points and was 4-6 from three-point range with a 4-4 effort from the line.

Looking ahead, Sage hosts MCLA on Tuesday, November 30. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Kahl Gym.
