Men's basketball falls in title game to Oneonta State

ONEONTA, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College fell short in the Oneonta State Quality Inn Tip-Off Tournament Championship this afternoon as the host Red Dragons posted a 101-68 win. Oneonta State stands at 3-0 on the year, while the loss puts RSC at 2-1.   At the half, the Red Dragons led 46-29 after shooting 58.1% from the floor (18-31), while holding the Gators to 43.3% (13-30).

Senior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) and senior forward/center Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Tyler Christian School) both finished in double-digits in the game as Borders tallied 16 points and Phair racked up 12 with two rebounds and two blocked shots.

Oneonta's Dylan Trombley led all scorers with his 23 points and paced his team which had four players finish in doubled-digit scoring. Trombley shot (8-13) from the floor and shot (70.0%, 7-10) from three-point range to lead his team. Frankie Williams added 20 points, while Daniel Derice  led the team on the boards with six rebounds while adding 14 points.  For the game, Oneonta State shot an impressive 60.6% from the floor (40-66). The Red Dragons also hit 52.6% from three-point range converting 10-of-19 of attempts from downtown.  

Borders is climbing the program's career scoring list as he is now seventh with 743 points. Next on the list for Borders, is the No. 6 spot held by Kai Deans '15 at 826. Phair, who ranks third in program annals with 68 career blocks, is also 13th with his 272 career rebounds.

Looking ahead, Sage hosts Castleton on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Kahl Gym in a non-conference match-up.
