Nazareth tops Sage men in E8 play on Saturday

Pittsford, NY — The Golden Flyers of Nazareth College posted an 87-69 win over Sage's men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Nazareth is now 20-4 overall with a 12-1 record in the Empire 8, while Sage is now 14-10 overall with a 7-6 record in the league.

Nazareth shot 70.0% from three point range in the first half (7-10) and took a 53-27 lead at the intermission. Overall, Nazareth shot 63.6% from the floor in the first half after converting 21-of-33 shots from the floor.

Sage sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) collected 20 points with five rebounds and three steals to lead the Gators. He shot 7-11 from the floor and 6-6 from the line in the contest. Sophomore forward Charles Davis (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou Hamer) picked up 15 points with six rebounds, a block, and an assists as well. Senior guard/forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) added six points with three rebounds for Sage as he moves his way up the Sage career scoring and rebounding lists. Anthony Mitchell is 10th in scoring with 575 points, seventh in rebounding (366), fourth in assists (176), seventh in blocks (45), and is now ninth in games played with 82.

Junior Josh Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) added six rebounds as well off the bench for the Gators.

Sage returns to action Saturday, February 12 hosting Utica College in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest in Kahl Gym and will honor their five seniors in conjunction with Senior Day next week.
