Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges men's basketball team set a season high in points with a 100-66 Empire 8 home victory over Houghton College at Kahl Gym Saturday afternoon. The Gators improved to 12-9 overall and evened their league record to 5-5. The Highlanders fell to 4-17 for the season and 2-8 in league play.

Sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) scored a game high 24 points with a game best seven rebounds and a game high four assists. Sophomore forward Charles Davis (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou Hamer) added 18 points on eight of 11 shooting and sophomore guard Deonte Sherwood (Orange Park, FL/Oakleaf) scored 12 points with four assists and five boards. Sophomore guard Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) scored 11 points and sophomore forward Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) joined Borders with a game best seven rebounds.

The Gators led 47-38 at halftime and scored 53 points in the second half to eclipse the previous game high of 92 points earlier this season. Sage shot a blistering 59% for the game, including making 22 of 34 shots in the second half for a 65% shooting percentage in the final 20 minutes. The Gators shot 54% in the first half. The hosts also outrebounded the guests by 10, 39-29.

Houghton was led by junior guard/forward Jordan Holmes, who scored 25 points and had five rebounds. Freshman guard Isaac Dow (Jamesville, NY/Lafayette) scored nine points and pulled down five rebounds. The Highlanders shot 43% for eh game and had 23 turnovers for the day.

Senior guard/forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) continues his climb in the Gator record book as he is 10th in scoring with 557 points, eighth in rebounding (349), fourth in assists (170) and seventh in blocks (44).

Sage hosts Alfred University Sunday at 12 p.m. at Kahl Gym in an Empire 8 game. Houghton will play a league game at Utica College Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
