Sage men fall at Elmira

Elmira, NY – Sage's men's basketball team travelled to Elmira College for an Empire 8 tilt on Tuesday night with the Soaring Eagles. Elmira used a strong second half to overtake the Gators, 74-68 for the win. Elmira is now 2-17 overall and 1-7 in the league. Sage drops to 10-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Sage held a 39-34 lead at the half, bur Elmira outscored Sage 40-29 to post the E8 victory.

Sage's sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) added 15 points in the contest to lead the Gators. Senior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) and sophomore Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) both finished with 13 points apiece, while Denmark added four assists.  Senior Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) tallied eight rebounds with six points and five assists for Sage, while sophomore Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) picked up seven points with five rebounds.

Elmira got a double-double from Rashaad Nurse who led all scorers with 23 points and had 14 rebounds. Joining him in scoring for the night with Shawn Backus who picked up 22 points with three assists.

After Tuesday's play, Anthony Mitchell is third with 103 career steals and also stands 10th in the career scoring list with 543 points. He is also ranked seventh in career rebounding with 339 and is 10th in career appearances as he has played in 77 games at Sage. Denmark is now ninth in career games played with 80 games, while adding 157 career assists which is sixth best.

Sage is in action on February 1, hosting Hartwick College in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
