Sage falls to SJFC despite double-double from Borders
SAGE MEN'S BASKETBALL – St. John Fisher 80, Sage 76
 
Albany, NY – Senior guard Sammy Robinson (Cedarhurst, NY/Lawrence) scored a game high 28 points to lead St. John Fisher to an 80-76 Empire 8 men's basketball victory at The Sage Colleges Saturday afternoon at Kahn Gym. The Cardinals are now 4-0 in league play and 9-6 overall while the Gators stand 9-7 for the season and 2-3 in the Empire 8.
 
Robinson made 11 of his 12 free throw attempts and had seven rebounds with three assists and two blocks. All seven rebounds came on the defensive side. Senior guard Dennis Hare (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) recorded 16 points and led the Cardinals with eight rebounds. Junior guard Matt Asenjo (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) scored 12 points and both Hare and Asenjo made six of their eight shots. Fisher shot 53% for the game.
 
Sage was led by a double-double by sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) with his team highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds. It was his second career double-double. Senior guard/forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds while sophomore forward Charles Davis (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou Hamer) added 13 points. The Gators outrebounded the Cardinals, 40-38, and shot 39% but 47% in the second half. Fisher led by four at 37-33 at halftime 
 
In the Gator record book Mitchell moved into 10th in career scoring with 537 points, passing Rob Mills (2015-17). Mitchell ranks third in steals (101), seventh in rebounding (331), fifth in assists (158) and seventh in blocks (40). Denmark is sixth in assists with 148, seventh in made three pointers with 72 and ninth in games with 77. 
 
Sage is on the road with games on January 24 at Alfred at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at Houghton at 2 p.m. in Empire 8 games. The Cardinals host Elmira Friday in league play at 5:30 p.m.
