Sage men collect convincing win over Elmira in E8 action
SAGE MEN'S BASKETBALL – Sage 90, Elmira 47
 
Albany, NY —Sage's men's basketball squad returned home to start a three-game homestand at Kahl Gym Saturday afternoon. The Gators jumped out to a 20-point first half lead and defeated Elmira College, 90-47 in an Empire 8 contest. Sage improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the league while the Soaring Eagles fell to 1-12 for the season and 0-3 in league play.
 
Sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) led the Gators with a game high 22 points. He made 10 of his 13 shots in helping the hosts shoot 50% for the day. Sophomore guard Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) scored 17 points, highlighted by his 7 for 9 at the line. The Gators got 10 points each from sophomore forward Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) and sophomore forward Fethener Aime (Palm Coast, FL/Flagler Palm Coast). Sage shot 72% from the line. The Gators forced 25 turnovers and held the Soaring Eagles to 28% shooting.
 
Elmira was led by sophomore forward Rashaad Nurse (Queens, NY/Fallsburg), who was the lone Soaring Eagle in double figures with 10 points. A total of 17 Elmira player saw action. The Soaring Eagles outrebounded the Gators, 43-41. 
 
Sage senior guard/forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) continues his climb in the Gator record book and is 11th in scoring with 511 points, third in steals (101), seventh in rebounding (319), fifth in assists (156) and seventh in blocks (40). Senior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) is sixth in assists with 144, eighth in made three pointers with 70 and 10th in games with 75. 
 
Sage hosts Nazareth at Kahl Gym in an Empire 8 game next Friday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m. Elmira hosts Empire 8 rival Houghton next Friday at 5:30 p.m.
