Borders collects 20 points as Gators push past Cobleskill, 84-75

Cobleskill, NY- Sage's men's basketball team travelled to SUNY-Cobleskill for a non-conference match-up with the Fighting Tigers. Sage posted an 84-75 win for the team's third straight victory, giving Sage a 7-4 record. SUNY-Cobleskill falls to 7-2.

Sage's sophomore guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) finished with a season-best 20 points to pace the Gators who held a 39-33 lead at the break. Borders made 7-of-11 field goals with three treys (3-5) and was 3-3 from the line with four rebounds in the win.

Senior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) connected for 15 points with five assists, while sophomore forward Charles Davis (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou Hamer) finished with 11 points. Sophomore Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) pulled down 13 rebounds as Sage held a commanding 48-28 margin on the boards. Geronimo added eight points, while sophomore center Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Tyler Christian School) hauled in eight rebounds with four points and three blocked shots. Sophomore Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) picked up nine points and six rebounds for the Gators.

After Saturday's game, senior captain Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) now has 499 career points after adding five points in the game with Cobleskill. He is the program's 13th all-time leading scorer, while standing seventh in career rebounding with 314 boards. Denmark boasts 141 career assists which puts him in seventh place on the career list, just four shy of moving past Travis Gill (144, 2014-2016).

Cobleskill's Antwan Claxton finished with 23 points after making 10-of-15 field goals with seven rebounds, six assists and a steal.

Sage is back in action on January 7 travelling to Utica College for the team's Empire 8 opener with the Pioneers. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
