Phair's Double-Double lifts Sage to win over Maine Presque Isle, 92-85

Middletown, CT—Sage's men's basketball team faced the University of Maine Presque Isle in the consolation game of the Wesleyan University in the Herb Kenny Tournament Sponsored by Red Lion Hotel Cromwell on Saturday afternoon. Sage led 47-35 at the break and went on to earn the 92-85 win. Sage is now 3-1 this season and Presque Isle falls to 0-2.

The Gators were led by sophomore forward Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Tyler Christian School) as he tallied a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, both career highs. Phair earned a nod to the All-Tournament Team for his play at the tournament that included 13.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg with 26 points and 17 boards.

Senior captain Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) picked up 10 points with a career-best 9 assists. He added two blocks and nine rebounds as well.

Sophomore Deonte Sherwood (Orange Park, FL/Oakleaf) added a season-best 17 points in the contest as he buried a pair of three-pointers. Senior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) added 18 points with six assists for the Gators, while senior center Joshua Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) added five points with five rebounds.

After Saturday's contest, Mitchell is now 7th in career rebounding with 291 rebounds, while his 133 career assists is 6th. He is also 9th with 90 career steals and 9th with 30 blocks. Denmark is now 10th with his 61 career three-pointers as well in the Gators' career record book.

Sage is back in action on November 20 hosting SUNY-New Paltz at 7 p.m. in Kahl Gym.
