Last second bucket dampens Sage's comeback in OT, 86-84

HARTWICK SPOILS SAGE SENIOR NIGHT IN OT, 86-84

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Hawks of Hartwick College in the final regular-season contest of the year for both teams. Sage forced overtime after tying the game at 78-78 on a three-point basket with 15 seconds left in regulation. In the overtime, Sage's senior Chris Kidd (Troy, NY/Beacon) made a layup with 0.07 left to give Sage an 84-83 lead. Hartwick's sophomore guard Pat Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) hit the game winning shot from the far right corner with 0.01 left to play to give the Hawks an 86-84 advantage and the win. Hartwick wraps the season with a 10-15 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the Empire 8. Sage's season ends with a 10-15 overall record and also 6-10 in the league.

Prior to the contest Sage honored their 2018-2019 seniors, Chris Kidd (Troy, NY/Beacon), graduate player Frane Larose (Miami, FL/North Miami Beach Senior), and senior team manager John Johnson (Brooklyn, NY).

Kidd, who has earned acclaim this season as the Gators' leading scorer on the season and while adding 10 double-doubles and 414 career points in his time at Sage and is fourth all-time with his 13.4 career ppg average. Larose, who missed last season with an injury, has returned this year and has a personal-best 7.5 ppg average on the year with 167 career assists, which puts him fourth all-time on the Gator career list in 48 games played in a Sage uniform. 

Garey led all players with his 30 points after burying seven three-pointers and shot 11-20 from the floor.  Junior forward Kyle Bradshaw (Tinton Falls, NJ) added a double-double on 2 points with 13 rebounds including 12 defensive boards and a pair of blocked shots.  Senior Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) added 12 points with five assists and five rebounds in his finale.

Sage's rookie guard Deonte Sherwood (Orange Park, FL/Oakleaf) saved his best game of the his freshman season for Monday night as he exploded for 20 points off the bench and made four-of-six three-pointers with two steals  and an impressive 7-12 effort from the floor. 

Sage's sophomore center Joshua Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) added 19 points with six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Kidd just missed the double-double as he connected for 14 points with nine rebounds and three steals in his final career appearance.
