Balanced attack leads Gators past Houghton, 75-57

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted Houghton College in an Empire 8 match-up on Saturday afternoon in Kahl Gym. The Gators collected a 75-57 victory to improve to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the league. Houghton drops to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in the league.

Sage led 34-22 at the half despite shooting 33.3% from the floor (13-39) and after being tied at 12-12 in the first half (11:02) never looked back en route to the team's second straight league victory.

Senior forward Chris Kidd (Troy, NY/Beacon) added a double-double on 12 points with 12 rebounds and shot 50.0% from the floor (6-12). Joining him in double digit scoring was sophomore center Joshua Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) as he had 13 points with eight rebounds. Junior guard Christian Larson (Jacksonville, FL/Oakleaf) also picked up 12 points off the bench as all 12 of his points came from three-point range.

Junior Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) collected nine points with two assists for Sage as 12 players finished in the scoring on Saturday.

Houghton's rookie guard Darren Clark (Fillmore, NY/Franklinville) had a game-high 18 points, while sophomore forward Jordan Holmes (Fairport, NY/Fairport) added 13 points with two blocks and a steal. Clark and senior center Akil Grampus (Queens, NY/Academy of Finance Enterprise) were co-high rebounders for the Highlanders with seven boards each.

Sage is back in action on Friday, January 25 at Elmira College for a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 matchup, while Houghton is back in action on January 21 at Elmira for a 7:30 p.m. league contest.
