Gators drop league match-up at SJFC

Pittsford, NY— The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Western New York for an Empire 8 match-up with the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College. The Cardinals earned the key league victory, beating Sage 92-66. With the victory, SJFC improves to 8-4 overall and is unbeaten at 3-0 in the league. Sage drops to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the league.

SJFC led 50-33 at the half after shooting an impressive 59.0% in the first stanza of play, making 23-of-59 shots. For the game, they shot 57.7% (41-71) and had four players finish in double-digit scoring. Leading the way for the host Cardinals was Sammy Robinson with a game-best 23 points, while Ryan Henderson finished with 19 points.

Leading the way for Sage in the contest was junior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) as he added 12 points off the bench and was 2-2 from three-point range. Sophomore forward Josh Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) connected for 11 points with seven rebounds. Senior forward Chris Kidd (Troy, NY/Beacon) and junior guard Christian Larson (Jacksonville, FL/Oakleaf) both tallied seven points in the contest. Rookie forward Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia/Trinity Christian Academy) pulled down seven rebounds with six points off the bench for the Gators.

Sage is back in action on Saturday, January 12 at Nazareth College for a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
