Troy, NY—The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute had five players score in double figures in a 76-51 men's basketball home victory over The Sage Colleges at the East Campus Athletic Village Tuesday night. The Gators now stand 1-3 on the season while the Engineers improved to 2-1.
Jeffrey Coulter scored a game high 15 points and Tom Horvat scored 13 for the Engineers. Marcus Glese pulled down nine rebounds (tied for the game best) and RPI shot 44%. The Engineers jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first 5:59 of the contest and led 43-31 at halftime, shooting 50% after the first 20 minutes.
Sage junior guard Christian Larson (Jackonville, FL/Oakleaf) led the Gators with 10 points and sophomore guard Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) tied Glese with the game high total of nine rebounds. Sophomore forward/center Joshua Gonzalez (Albany, NY/Canajoharie) added seven rebounds. Both rebound totals were career highs for Mitchell and Gonzalez. The Gators outrebounded the Engineers, 44-43 overall, including 17-11 on the offensive rebounds.
Sage is idle until Tuesday, November 27 when the Gators host the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 7 p.m. at Kahl Gymnasium.
