Mitchell placed on All-Tourney Team as Gators cruise past Bears, 99-71

SAGE MEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES PAST ST. JOSEPH'S-BROOKLYN, 99-71

Purchase, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team had four players finish in double-digit scoring on Saturday as the Gators beat St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, 99-71. With the win, Sage collects the Consolation Games in the Manhattanville College AJ Buchanan Classic and improves to 1-2, while the Bears fall to 0-2.

The Gators led 45-32 at the half and never trailed or saw the game tied as they earned the victory and placed sophomore forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) on the all-tournament team as well. Mitchell added 17 points with eight rebounds against the Bears and hit an impressive 8-of-15 shots from the floor as well.

Sage's newcomer from down-under, forward Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia) led the Gators with his 20 points off the bench and finished with a double-double hauling in 11 rebounds. Phair was red-hot making 7-of-10 field goals in the contest as well.  

Junior guard Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) poured in 19 points with seven steals, while junior guard Darius Denmark (Orlando, FL/Evans) tallied 14 points with four assists and added a 3-6 effort from three-point range.

All told, Sage had 12 different players figure into the scoring in the victory and held the Bears to a 9.5% shooting performance from three-point range (2-21) and had a commanding lead on the boards 57-43.

Sage is back in action on November 20 travelling to RPI for an 8 p.m. non-conference game with the Engineers.
