Sage almost gets by Nazareth, falls in final minutes, 64-60

 

Rochester, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon for an Empire 8 contest. The Golden Flyers held a 34-27 halftime lead and went on to earn the 64-60 victory over Sage Nazareth is now 12-6, 7-2 in the Empire 8, while Sage drops to 7-11 overall and 2-7 in the league.

Nazareth got a double-double from Jake Burgio as he added 21 points with 19 rebounds and four blocks for the Golden Flyers. Tyler Stenglein added 19 points and made 12-of-13 free throws in the contest.

Sage's forward Barceem Dukes (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) collected a double-double adding 18 points with 13 rebounds for the Gators. The 13 rebounds tied his season and career high with the performance and shot 8-19 from the floor. Sophomore guard Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) added 13 points with eight rebounds, while senior guard Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) added 11 points with a pair of assists and steals.

Sage will return to action on Tuesday, January 29 for a 6 p.m. contest at Hartwick in Empire 8 play.
