SVC stays unbeaten after besting Sage, 88-74

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup in Kahl Gym. The Mountaineers posted an 88-74 win over Sage to remain unbeaten at 6-0, while Sage drops to 3-3.

After trailing most of the first half, the Gators rallied to take a 40-39 lead into the locker room. SVC emerged from the locker room and went on an 8-0 run to regain the lead. The Mountaineers would watch their lead grow to as many as 17 points (79-62, 4:03) before Sage would claw their way back pulling within nine points (80-71, 1:49) but could not get any closer in the last minutes of play.

Senior guard Mike Pierre (Melrose, NY/Hoosick Valley) led SVC with his 17 points and six rebounds with four steals and two assists. Sophomore forward Tyler McLeod (Auburn, NY/Watervliet) finished with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench for SVC as they combined to shoot 50.0% for the game from the floor (28-56).  Junior guard Josh Borders (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Coral Springs Charter School) added 12 points, while junior forward Andre Hodo (Rockville, MD/Montrose Christian) added 11 points with five rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist.

For Sage, which held a commanding edge on the boards with 51 rebounds to SVC's 35 rebounds, senior forward Barceem Dukes (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) added a double-double off the bench with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He had eight offensive boards and shot an impressive 8-13 from the floor for Sage. Joining him in double-digits also with 16 points was senior Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers).

Sage's junior Chris Kidd (Manhattan, NY/Beacon) tallied 14 points hitting 8-of-10 from the line. Sophomore Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) added 12 points for the Gators.

Sage is back in action on Thursday, December 7 hosting Bard College in Kahl Gym at 7:30 p.m. Sage will honor their 2017 Empire 8 Fall All-Stars at halftime of the game on Thursday. Southern Vermont College is back in action on December 9 at Lehman College in a 2 p.m. match-up.
