
Canton, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team posted a 76-74 win on the road beating SUNY-Canton 76-74 as sophomore Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY/Albany) buried a three-pointer to give Sage the win on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Sage is now 3-2 overall and riding a two-game win streak. The Kangaroos drop to 2-5.
Sage led 39-38 at the half, but a strong second half by SUNY-Canton saw the Gators' lead disappear as Canton led by as many as 13 points with 8:59 left, 66-53. Scurry added 11 of his career-high 22 points in each half to pace the Gators.
With 2:21 left, junior Chris Kidd (Manhattan, NY/Beacon) made a pair of free throws to cut the Kangaroos' lead to one point, 72-21. Scurry added a tip in at 2:10 to give Sage a 73-72 lead, before SUNY-Canton's Adrian Williams hit a pair of free throws to swing the lead back to the Kangaroos, 74-73 with 1:50 left to play.
Down the stretch both teams failed to get the ball to fall until at 0:08, Scurry hit the game-winner with a basket from three-point range.
For the game, Scurry shot 8-16 from the floor with two three-pointers and was 4-4 from the line with four rebounds. Kidd added a double-double with his 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior guard Wayne Weir (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) added 13 point, while sophomore forward Anthony Mitchell (Bronx, NY/Salesian) added a double-double as well with his 12 points, 10 rebounds and tied his career-best with eight assists.
Sage is back in action on Tuesday, December 5 hosting Southern Vermont College in an 8 p.m. non-conference match-up in Kahl Gym.
