New York, NY— Former Sage men's basketball player, William Hennep C'14 has been honored for his outstanding work as a member of the community at Success Academy Charter Schools (Far Rockaway, NY).

He was recently selected as a 2017 Success Academy Excellence Award winner. An athletic coach at Success, Hennep won the ETHOS Award, which recognizes school staff who best demonstrate the Success community's values: Excellence, Teamwork, Humor, Ownership, and Students.

Hennep noted, "Playing basketball in college and at Sage helped me prepare to work in a team setting. At Success, we work together towards a common goal to provide our scholars with a world class education. Attending Sage laid the foundation by helping me to develop a great work ethic."

Sage's men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director Brian Barnes noted, "The Sage Basketball family and athletic department congratulate Will on this outstanding achievement." Barnes added, "Throughout his playing career at Sage, Will was a student-athlete illustrating what the power of goal setting and determination could accomplish.  Will's work ethic throughout his senior season was exemplary as he pushed himself and his teammates to continue to improve every day in practice and games.  Will was the ultimate competitor and we couldn't be more proud of this achievement and recognition."

A two-year letterwinner on Sage's men's basketball team, Hennep was part of the Gators' 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 teams. He played in 50 games at Sage with 19 starts and was honored as the recipient of the 2011-2012 Sage Men's Basketball Coaches' Award for his efforts on and off the basketball court. Hennep made 18 starts by year's end in 23 games played. He averaged 20.4 minutes a game and added 2.6 ppg and finished with 36 assists, while picking off 23 steals is his first campaign with the Gators. He added 25 assists and 31 steals as a senior with a 4.3 ppg average and 19 three-point baskets and helped the 2012-2013 team to a spot in the Skyline Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference post-season tournaments as a senior.
