Old Westbury, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Long Islands for the second time this past week. This time Sage faced the Rams of SUNY-Old Westbury. OW posted the 91-57 victory improving to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in the league, while the loss snaps the Gators' four-game win streak as they drop to 11-8 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
OW held a 48-32 lead at the half and used a strong shooting performance to collect the victory as they combined for 50.8% shooting from the floor. The Panthers were even hotter from three-point range converting 11-of-20 three pointers for the game and added 55.)% shooting from beyond the arch.
Junior Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) led the Gators with his 19 points and added four three-point baskets. Senior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) added 11 points with five rebounds. Patterson now has 850 career points at Sage and stand in the No. 5 all-time scoring list, just 10 points behind Jeff Stopera (860 points, 2009-2014). He also ranks among the program's leading rebounders with 487 boards, good enough for No. 4. He also has played in an impressive 9 games at Sage and ranks in a tie for the most games played with Matt Farbotko (94 games, 2009-2013).
Sage's junior center Thiago Conceicao (El Portal, FL/Westwood Christian) finished with seven points and nine boards for the Gators in the contest.
Sage is back in action on January 31 hosting Yeshiva University in a 7 p.m. home Skyline Conference contest.
