Sage men's hoops team earns key Skyline win at SLC, 80-68

Bronxville, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Sarah Lawrence College for a Skyline Conference match-up with the Gryphons. After trailing at the half, 42-41, the Gators turned up their play mid-way through the second half and went on for an 80-68 victory. Sage improves to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the league, while SLC drops to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Senior forward Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tallied put up a lay-up with 10:04 left to play to break a 56-56 tie. From that point on, Sage went on to outscore SLC and posted the road win. Mills finished with 14 points and five rebounds as the Gators had five different players finish the night scoring in double digits.

Junior Jordan Devaughn (Jacksonville, FL/Flora McDonald Academy) connected for 15 points, while junior center Thiago Conceicao (El Portal, FL/Westwood Christian) added 16 points with six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Senior Davon Sylvester (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) added 11 points as well as Sage shot 50.0% from the floor as a team.  

Sage senior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) led the team with his 18 points with five rebounds in the match-up. He shot 7-14 from the floor and continues his run to 1,000 career points. Patterson boasts 831 career points as he moved ahead of All-American Kai Deans (No. 5 826 points). He has 476 rebounds, and 34 blocks in 91 career games played. He ranks fifth in career scoring, sixth in rebounding, sixth in blocked shots as well as fifth in games played.

Sage is back in action on January 21 hosting St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn in a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference contest at Kahl Gym.
