Mills and Gill star as Gators top Maritime, 87-73

Albany, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Privateers on Maritime College in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. Sage posted an 87-73 victory as junior Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and senior Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) exploded for career-best efforts as Mills poured in 28 points and Gills tallied 27 points. With the win, Sage improves to 15-7 overall and 13-4 in the Skyline, while Maritime drops to 5-16 overall and 5-11 in the league.

Sage owns a five-game win streak, while standing second in the race for the Skyline regular-season crown with three regular-season games remaining on the schedule.

The Gators led 50-41 at the break as Mills led the team with 20 points. By day's end, Mills connected for a 10-14 effort from the floor tallying 28 points, which ranks fifth at Sage for a single-game mark, while Gill added 17 second half points and finished with a personal-best 27 points in the action. The 27 points ranks sixth all-time for a single-game.

Senior forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) just missed a double-double as he connected for 14 points with nine rebounds and a block. Ford now has 943 career points and is third all-time in scoring, while ranking No. 1 all-time with his 710 boards and No. 5 with his 60 career blocked shots.

Junior Alex Lilac (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) hauled in a career-best eight rebound with three assists and a season-best four points.

Maritime's sophomore center Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) had 18 points with seven rebounds, while junior Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, NY/Queens Teaching) had 13 points with nine rebounds. Junior Tim Hoch (Coventry, RI/Fisher's Island (NY) added 12 points with five boards.
