Sage men fall to SJC-Brooklyn in Skyline action

Brooklyn, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn for a Skyline Conference contest with the Bears. Sage led 53-47 at the half but the Bears used a 20-3 run to overtake the Gators and earned a 101-85 win. SJC-Brooklyn improves to 9-7 overall and 7-6 in the league, while Sage drops to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in the Skyline.

SJC's Jamir Archer finished with a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds, while four other team mates tallied double-digit scoring performances to pace the Bears.

Sage shot 51.4% from the floor in the first half as junior Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) paced the team with 17 points at the break. Sage was held to 33.4% shooting in the second half, while the Bears shot 61.8% from the floor (21-34) and 20 points from Archer to lead the team to the win. Mills led the Gators with his 22 points and made 5-7 from three-point range.

Sage's senior Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) had 17 points with five assists, while also connecting for three three-pointers. Senior Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) connected for 16 points, while senior Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) finished with 10 points.

Senior forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added a double-double with his 11 points and 14 rebounds, elevating his career resume to include 896 points and 671 rebounds. He is No. 3 all-time in career scoring while owning the program's career rebounding mark.

Next up for the Gators is a home game with the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College. Because of the impending storm, the game has been moved to Friday, January 22 at 6 p.m. in Kahl Gym.
