Men's team opens Skyline play with 68-60 road win over SLC

Bronxville, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team, which won the 2015 Skyline Conference Championship, opened league play on Sunday afternoon with a visit to Sarah Lawrence College. Sage led 31-30 at the break and capped the day with the 68-60 win to post the first league win of the new season. Sage improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Gryphons drops to 1-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

Senior guard Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) connected for a game-best 19 points as he shot 50.0% from the floor (7-14), while handing out three assists. Joining Gill in double digits was senior forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) as he had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ford also racked up a career-best four blocks in the action, while picking off a pair of steals.

Gator junior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) connected for nine points, while junior forward Davon Sylvester (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) hauled in eight rebounds with six points. Senior Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) tallied five points with five assists and a steal, while senior guard Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) picked up six points with three blocks.

On his career, Ford became the program's all-time rebounding leader as he hauled in 11 rebounds against SLC. He broke the mark previously held by Matt Farbotko (523, 2009-2013) and now has 532 career rebounds. He also now has 722 career points and opens the week No. 5 in career scoring as he moved ahead of Ryan Sager (713, 2010-13) on Sunday against SLC.



The Gators are back in action on Tuesday, November 24 hosting RPI at Kahl Gym at 8 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
