Balanced attack leads Sage past Cobleskill, 84-76

Albany, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Fighting Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill on Tuesday night in Kahl Gym. The Gators posted an 84-76 win as they had six players finish in double digits. Sage improves to 2-1 on the year, while Cobleskill drops to 0-2.

Tied at 38-38 with 1:42 left in the first half, the Gators took a 40-38 lead at the intermission as senior Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left in the first half. The Gators emerged from the locker room and went on a 5-0 run and never looked back as they led by as many as 12 points, 65-53 (7:21). Junior forward Davon Sylvester (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) led the Gators off the bench with a team-best 16 points and had nine rebounds as well as the Gators held a 38-31 edge on the boards.

Senior guard Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) connected for 14 points with six assists and three steals, while junior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) added 12 points with six rebounds before fouling out. Senior co-captain Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) tallied 13 points with seven board and senior guard Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) netted 11 points for Sage.

Cobleskill's junior guard Brian Jackson (Bronx, NY/Global Enterprise Academy) finished with 15 points and had 5 three-pointers as he hit 5-10 from three-point range. Junior guard Quincey Miller (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette) added 14 points with eight boards, while sophomore guard Frank D'Esti (Vestal, NY/Vestal) finished with 13 points and six assists. Sophomore Malik Chambers (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill) finished with 10 points and handed out four assists.
