Gators need two OT's, but triumph 93-91 over MSMC

SAGE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ESCAPES WITH A DOUBLE-OT WIN OVER MSMC, 93-91; SAGE WIN STREAK GROWS TO EIGHT GAMES AS TEAM WINS 20th GAME OF YEAR

Newburgh, NY –The Sage College's men's basketball team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference contest with the Knights. After trailing 34-29 at the break, Sage forced overtime to tie the game at 73-73 at the end of regulation. In double-overtime, Sage triumphed, 93-91 to improve to 20-4 overall and 14-3 in the league. The loss puts MSMC at 7-17 overall and 6-11 in the league.

After scoring just four points in the first half, senior forward Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) forced the overtime with a layup at 0:09 after he tallied 19 second half points. By game's end, he led all scorers with his 27 points and 10 rebounds. Deans now has a program-record 416 points this season, bettering the mark set by Matt Farbotko with 413 points in 2012-13.

At the end of the first overtime after trailing by as many as five points (80-75, 3:32), Deans added the tying layup once again to force a second overtime period. Tied for the fifth time in the second overtime period, sophomore Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) had the game-winning shot after a missed shot by Andre Robinson at 0:03 and was able to get the rebound and put up the shot as time expired. The win preserves Sage's win streak as it now stands at eight games.

Senior Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC/Mercersburg Academy) added 18 points off the bench and was 6-9 from the floor, while sophomore Brett Ullman (Sharon Springs, NY/Sharon Springs Central) junior guard Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) each added 10 points.

Sage returns to action on Thursday, February 19 travelling to Sarah Lawrence College for a 7 p.m. Skyline conference contest to close the 2014-2015 regular-season out and a shot at the program's first Skyline Conference regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament.
