Deans pours in 32 points as Gators top OW, 88-71

Albany, NY –The Sage College's men's basketball team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Monday night in a Skyline Conference match-up. The host Gators took the contest 88-71 as senior tri-captain Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) netted 32 points and tied the single-game record in the process. Sage improves to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Skyline, while SUNY-Old Westbury is 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Sage led 50-43 at the break as Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) netted 19 of his 32 points in the first stanza of play. He shot 7-9 from the floor in the first half as the Gators combined for a 53.1% from the floor (17-32). Junior guard Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) tallied 14 first half points to pace Sage, while senior tri-captain Jacob Sopchak (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck) had five blocks in the first half.

OW's junior guard Reynaldo Walters (S. Ozone Park, NY/Benjamin S. Cardozo) added 12 points off the bench for the Panthers in the first half, while senior guard Jaquan Potter (Bellport, NY/Bellport) had ten points and was 3-3 from three-point range. The Panthers made 8-of-14 from three-point range in the first half and had a 20-18 edge on the boards.

Deans ties the single-game scoring mark set last year by Jeff Stopera with 32 points on Feb. 15, 2014 against Farmingdale State. Deans shot a blistering 11-16 from the floor and added a game-high 10 rebounds as well.  Robinson connected for 17 points, while junior Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) added 15 points with four assists and three steals. Sopchak tallied five points with seven boards and six blocks and continues to add to his active career block record that has grown to 93.

OW's sophomore Luckens Victor (Westbury, NY/Westbury) added 17 points and hit 5-of-9 shots from the floor and was 7-10 from the line. Potter added 10 points, while Walters finished with 12 points.

Sage returns to action on January 14 travelling to SUNY-Canton for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference matchup, while SUNY-Old Westbury is back in action on January 15 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
