Deans has career night, while Sopchak breaks career block record in Gators' win at Yeshiva

New York, NY –The Sage College's men's basketball team travelled to Yeshiva University for the squad's Skyline Conference opener. The Gators posted an 82-53 win as senior tri-captain Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) poured in a personal-best 29 points with 11 rebounds. Sage improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, while Yeshiva drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Deans, who is the reigning Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Week, surpassed his previous career high of 28 points after he hit a blistering 10-14 from the floor and 9-10 from the line. He added 11 boards in 24 minutes of action. Joining him in double-digit scoring was junior Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) as he finished with 18 points and shot 8-16 from the floor.

Among the many highlights for the team on Tuesday night, senior center and team tri-captain Jacob Sopchak (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck) broke the career record for most blocks with his three in the victory. He bettered the record of 76 set by Ryan Sager (2010-2013) and now has 78 career blocks.

Sage led 38-26 at the break and for the game hit an impressive 48.6% from the floor. The Gators shot 56.3% in the first half (18-32), as Deans had 13 points at the break.

Sage returns to action on December 6 hosting Farmingdale State College at 2 p.m. in Kahl Gym in the team's Skyline Conference home opener.
