Gators fall short at Purchase in Skyline Action

Purchase, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference contest with the Panthers. Purchase remained unblemished in Skyline Conference play with an 84-65 win and improves to 23-1 overall and 17-0 in the league. Sage drops to 14-10 overall and 10-7 in the league.

For the game, Sage was paced by the play of sophomore Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), who netted 17 points with nine rebounds. He shot 7-10 from the floor to lead the Gators, while rookie Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) added 13 points.

Sage's point guard and graduate performer Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) finished with eight points, while rookie Eric Samuel (New York, NY/Berkshire School) added six points, tying his personal best effort for the fourth time this season.

Purchase got 24 points from Joel Neri, while Andre Nixon contributed 19 points with four three point buckets in the action as the Panthers led 44-27 at the break.

The Gators will be back in action on February 22 hosting SUNY-Old Westbury at 2 p.m. in Kahl Gym. The Gators will recognize their seniors Saturday in conjunction with Senior Day.
