Sage men top Maritime, 81-77; Record 14th win for the Gators

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team hosted the Privateers of SUNY-Maritime on Wednesday night in a Skyline Conference contest. The Gators came away with an 81-77 win to set a new standard for most single-season wins with their 14th win of the season. Sage is now 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the Skyline, while Maritime drops to 3-19 overall and 1-14 in the league.

The Gators got a double-double from junior forward Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while the entire Sage starting lineup delivered double-digit scoring output in the action.

Rookie Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy), the reining Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, tallied a personal-best 15 points in the game with seven rebounds, while point guard and graduate performer Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) added 14 points with eight assists and four steals.  Senior Ryan LaBelle (East Berne, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) added 12 points, while sophomore Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) netted 10 points.

Maritime was paced by the play of junior guard Sean Corley (Harlem, NY/Thurgood Marshall) as he had 22 points and made 7-14 from the floor with six rebounds and four assists. Junior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas) added 20 points and made five three-pointers in the action. The Privateers combined for nine three-point baskets and shot 53.8% from three point range in the second half (7-13).

The Gators will be back in action on February 15 travelling to Farmingdale State College for a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference game, while Maritime is back in action on February 15 hosting SUNY-Old Westbury at 1 p.m.
