Gators post win over Maritime as Horne racked up his 1,200th career point

Throggs Neck, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team travelled to Maritime College on Saturday afternoon and posted a 74-54 victory in Skyline Conference play. Sage improves to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the league, while Maritime drops to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

The Gators held a 36-24 lead and never looked back in recording the conference win. Sage was led by senior forward Mason Horne's (Albany, NY/La Salle Institute) 18 points, marking his second straight 18 point effort. Horne surpassed the 1,200 career point plateau in the action and now has 1,204 career points, just 40 points shy of tying the all-time scoring mark at Sage held by Matt Farbotko (1,244 points).

Graduate performer Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) finished with 13 points and added eight assists with three steals. Junior Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) added nine points with five rebounds and two blocks.

The Gators combined for a 7-11 effort from three-point range and held a 37-27 edge on the boards and limiting the Privateers to a 38.8% effort from the floor.  

Sage will return to action on January 21 hosting SUNY-Canton in a 7 p.m. non-conference game to be held in the Kahl Gym.
