Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges Athletic Department has selected Brian Eastman (Cambridge, NY) as the newest member of the department. Eastman will join Sage’s men’s basketball staff this season as an assistant coach.

Head Sage Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Barnes said of Eastman, “I am very excited to have Brian join our program.” Barnes added, “I’ve gotten to know him quite well over the years. We share a common RPI coaching background so I know Brian comes to our staff well prepared. We are getting a first-rate coach, whose work ethic and enthusiasm will help take our program to the next level.

Eastman comes to Sage after spending last season as the head men’s basketball junior varsity coach at nearby RPI. He also spent the season serving as an assistant coach for the RPI varsity program, which capped the season ranked among the national statistical leaders.  The Engineers ranked third nationally in three-point field goals per game (12.2) and fourth nationally in scoring average after connecting on an impressive 90.5 ppg average a year ago. For Eastman last year’s tenure with RPI was his second after first working on the staff in 2004-2005. During that season, he was responsible for daily practice planning, on the floor instruction, player development, ad in-game coaching of the junior varsity program. He also assisted with recruiting efforts and scouting for RPI’s men’s varsity team.

A 2000 graduate of RPI, Eastman earned his bachelor of science degree in business management, where he excelled as a Dean’s List student. He is employed at GXS, formerly GE Information Services and has served in various roles since joining their staff in 2000. He is currently a sales manager.

A graduate of Cambridge Central School, he played for RPI and enjoyed a brief collegiate career. His love and understanding of the game helped him develop as a coach and he has previously served as the head modified boys’ basketball coach at Watervliet High School during the 2007-2008 season. Additionally, he was the varsity assistant at Watervliet for Walter Bowden from 2008-2011 and helped the team capture back-to-back Section II Class B Championship appearances after winning the title in 2011.

Eastman has also spent a number of seasons at the helm of the Arsenal City 17-Under AAU Team, and has worked a number of summer camps, including George Mardigan’s Camps.
