Harris's shot nearly propels Gators past MSMC
Despite a game-high 24 points from Ryan Harris, Sage fell on Wednesday to MSMC, 80-76
Albany, NY---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team hosted Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night in the Kahl Campus Center in a Skyline Conference game. The Blue Knights triumphed 80-76 as sophomore forward Carlos Valdez (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) erupted for 23 points and 20 rebounds in the contest. With the win, MSMC improves to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline Conference, while Sage drops to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Sage led most of the first half, before MSMC took the 32-31 lead into the locker room. Valdez added eight points with 10 rebounds in the first half before finishing the night with his double-double after also adding five assists and four blocks.
Valdez added the final points on the night for the Blue Knight as he sunk a pair of free throws with 0.6 seconds left giving his team the 80-76 lead and the win.
Sage had an opportunity to take the lead in the finals seconds as junior guard Ryan Harris (Hudson Falls, NY/Glens Falls) attempted a three-point basket, but it rolled off the rim and was rebounded by Valdez who was fouled on the play, ending the Gators' hopes on the night.
Harris led all players on the night with his 24 points as he connected on five three-point baskets and was a perfect 5-5 from the line.
Sage got 16 points from freshman guard Mervin Springer (Copiague, NY/Copiague), while freshman Alex King (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added 13 points with seven rebounds.
MSMC's junior forward Tim Morris (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) also added a double-double in the game as he netted 14 points with 11 rebounds, adding a pair of blocks as well for the Blue Knights.
