Gators almost upend MCLA, 84-80

Adams, MA---The Sage Colleges men's basketball team faced the Trailblazer of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday night in a non-conference game. The hosts would come away with the 84-80 win over Sage as junior forward Jon Greenburg (Antwerp, Belgium) finished with a game-high 33 points. MCLA is now 3-1, while Sage drops to 1-3.

            Sage owned an 11 point lead at the break (44-33) as junior guard Garret Bishop's (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) had 12 points at the intermission. Sage shot an impressive 63.4% from the floor in the first half as they made 14 of 22 field goal attempts.

            The Trailblazers proved to be too much for the Gators as were unable to hold Greenburg in check as he poured in 22 second half points and finished with 33 points and made 12-of-14 field goals he attempted.

He added 13 rebounds for MCLA, while senior Mike Perreault (Whitinsville, MA/Northbridge) added 17 points.

Sage got 18 points from both Bishop and freshman forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point, NY/Northeastern Clinton), while rookie Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 16 points with a team-high eight rebounds.

            For the game, the Gators shot a season-best 52.0% from the floor as they made 26-of-50 field goal attempts, while adding a season-high eight three-point baskets and made 53.3% of their three-point attempts on the night.
