Field hockey team falls to Utica, 2-1 in E8 match

Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's field hockey team hosted the Pioneers of Utica University on Wednesday evening  at the University at Albany Stadium. Utica tallied the 2-1 win to move to 6-7 overall and 5-2 in the Empire 8. RSC drops to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in the league.

Utica's junior Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) scored first with her 10th goal of the year at the 6:46 mark of the match. The Gators were able to tie the game as sophomore midfielder Shauna Lanoue (Troy, NY/Troy) scored as time expired at the end of the first quarter on a pass from senior Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury). The game remained tied until the opening minutes of the second half as rookie Riley Cosimeno (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherill) scored the game-winner at 32:38.

In goal for the Gators, rookie Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) made 17 saves in the contest. Utica's sophomore Lyla Cushman (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) made one save in earning the win.

The Gators return to action on October 20 hosting Wells College at UAlbany at 4p.m.
