Field hockey teams drops heartbreaker to Nazareth

Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's field hockey team hosted the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College in an Empire 8 contest Friday night. After the two teams played to a scoreless match through three quarters, Nazareth scored to break the deadlock. The two teams would combine to score five times in the nine minutes of the game. Nazareth tallied the 4-1 win to move to 2-10 and 2-3 in the Empire 8, while RSC drops to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the league.

Nazareth's senior Grace Wasileski (Moravia, NY/Moravia) broke the scoreless action on a pass from Audra Mieczkowski (Vestal, NY/Vestal) at the 50:35 mark. Wasileski then assisted on the next goal which came at 53:35 from senior Caroline Desautels (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington).

RSC pulled within one goal as senior Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored her second goal of the season on a pass from graduate player Makenna Barton (Oriskany, NY/Rome Free Academy) at 56:07. Nazareth got a pair of goals by sophomore Hannah Janes (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) and Desautels at 58:45 and 59:35.

In goal for the Gators, rookie Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) made 11 saves. Nazareth's rookie Lauren Bachner (Gorham, ME/Gorham) earned the win with one save.

The Gators return to action on October 10 hosting RPI in a 6 p.m. non-conference match at U Albany's Alumni Field.
