Field hockey squad drops home opener to Manhattanville

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College's field hockey team hosted the Valiants of Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening for their 2022 home opener held at the University at Albany. MC's senior Abbey Playle (Reading, England) led all players with five goals as she lifted her team to the win. Manhattanville improves to 1-5, while the Gators are now 0-2 on the young season.

The Valiants held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter as sophomore forward Shauna Lanoue (Troy, NY/Columbia) scored her first goal of the year and broke up the shutout bid.

Playle finished with 5 goals and assisted on 4 others, while senior Ava Panzer (Pawling, NY/Pawling) added 3 goals and senior Felicity Williams (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) added 2 goals.

For the second time in as many outings, RSC's sophomore goalkeeper Anna Church (Ludlow, VT/Green Mountain Union) made a personal-best in goal as on Wednesday she recorded 21 saves.

MC's sophomore goalie Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia) made three saves with one goal allowed in earning the win with 30 minutes of work. She shared in the action with rookie Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, NY/Selden) and junior Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay Senior). 

The Gators return to action on September 17 travelling to Keuka College for a 1 p.m. Empire 8 match-up.
