Gator of the Year honors given to Greier for Field Hockey

Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's department of athletics announced their award winners for the 2021-2022 academic year at the annual awards banquet.  In addition to several honors bestowed for athletic and academic excellence, Sage also selected the Gator of the Year Award for the department's 21 varsity sports for the 2021-2022 year.

The Department also announced the 59 honorees for the Athletic Honor Society. Russell Sage College's Intercollegiate Athletic Honor Society recognizes junior, senior, or graduate level student-athletes, who have maintained a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.3 or better and have participated as a member of a varsity team for at least two seasons.

RSC's senior goalie Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) was honored as the Gator of the Year in field hockey and for her academic prowess as well.

Head Field Hockey Coach Tamara Mills remarked "This year our Gator Award is going to a very special young woman, who has put the team on her back for the past four years." She continued, "On the field, she set program breaking records, while off the field she became the go to teammate for advice.  She has been a role model for our incoming players and truly lived our season's slogan of Decide, Commit, Succeed every day."

Greier wrapped her 2021 season with a record of 4-13.  Along the way, she made 20 or more saves on four occasions and started all 17 games. She also set a program record with 28 saves in a game when the team faced Utica this past fall. She closes out her career having established most of the young program's standards for goalies.  Greier holds the mark for most career wins (14), most career starts by a goalie (47), most games played by a goalie (48), while also making 449 saves in her time in net with a saves percentage of .723. She played in net for 3,001 minutes and finishes with a 3.43 career goals against average which is third best.

Academically, she also excelled in the classroom and was named to the Sage Athletic Honor Society for the second straight year, while also garnering her second consecutive selection to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
