Field Hockey Triumphs in Home opener, 2-0 over Medaille

Colonie, NY — Russell Sage College field hockey team hosted the Mavericks of Medaille College on Saturday at Afrims Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Gators scored a pair of goals in the first quarter en route to a 2-0 win over the Mavericks of Medaille. With the win, RSC is now 1-1, while Madaille drops to 0-2.

Junior forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored the first goal of the match at the 8:39 mark after the Gators peppered the Mavericks' goalie rookie Kristyn Clare (Rochester, NY/East Irondequoit) with a trio of shots.

The Gators made the most of a call as junior midfielder Kyndra Riche (Salem, NY/Salem Washington Academy) as she scored on a penalty stroke at 12:34.

Sage finished the afternoon with 24 shots, while Medaille added six in the contest. Clare finished with 14 saves, while RSC's senior goalie Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made three saves in 45 minutes, while rookie keeper Anna Church (Ludlow, VT/Green Mountain Union) worked the final quarter in goal for the Gators.

RSC is back in action on September 8 travelling to SUNY Oswego for a 6 p.m. contest.
