Cortney Conley honored as Field Hockey Gator of the Year

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' department of athletics recently announced the recipients of the department's annual awards.  Sage named sophomore Cortney Conley (Stanfordville, NY/Pine Plains) as the 2019-2020 field hockey Gator of the Year.

Head field hockey coach Tamara Mills commented, "As a midfielder Cortney was highly involved on both sides of the field making her an integral part of our team's success." She added, "Cortney's competitive spirit and high work rate is what challenges her teammates to be their best.  No matter the situation she is a fearless player because there is never a time she is not giving 110%. In addition to her work ethic, she brings a sense of humor and compassion to the team.  She is a selfless teammate on and off the field never looking for recognition, even though she consistently takes care of all the little things."

Over the course of the 2019 season, Conley excelled for the Gators and capped the year with a selection to the 2019 Empire 9 Honorable Mention Team. She was a 19-game starter this past fall and added 10 points on two goals with six assists. She now has six career goals with seven assists for 19 career points which ranks fifth in the record book at Sage.

Additionally, she was honored with a selection to the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

For the year, Sage's field hockey team doubled the win total from the inaugural season as they went 8-11 under rookie head coach Tamara Mills.
