Sage field hockey team honored by NFHCA With Team Academic Award

GILBERT, Ariz. — The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) is proud to announce that 147 programs have earned the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. For the second straight year, The Sage Colleges' team has earned a selection as a member of the academic team.

The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2019-2020 school year.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology posted the highest team GPA with a mark of 3.84. Second on the top-five list was William Paterson University with a 3.75 team GPA. Coming in third were the 2019 NCAA Division III National Champions, Middlebury College, with a 3.71. Wells College and Alvernia University rounded out the top-five performers with team GPAs of 3.69 and 3.66, respectively.

Three Division III academic awards remain to be announced — the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad will be announced on March 12, the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholars of Distinction on March 25, and the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Scholar-Athlete on April 2.

Sage's field hockey team wrapped the program's second varsity season and continues to add to their awards from this past campaign. For the year, Sage's field hockey team doubled the win total from the inaugural season as they went 8-11 under rookie head coach Tamara Mills.
