Owls slip past Sage in OT, 2-1

Westfield, MA—Sage's field hockey team travelled to Westfield State University for a non-conference contest with the Owls on Wednesday evening. The match went to overtime and WSU triumphed, 2-1. With the win the Owls are now 5-14, while Sage drops to 7-11.

The game was scoreless in the first half before WSU got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Allie Giguere on a pass from Shannon Roycroft at 31:56 in the third quarter. Sage tied the contest as sophomore forward Cortney Conley (Stanfordville, NY/Pine Plains) scored at 47:39. The goal was her first of the season. Giguere scored the game-winner at 69:13 on a pass from Marina Small to give the win to the Owls.

Sage's sophomore goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made 14 saves in the match but took the loss and is now 6-11 this season. The 14 saves is tied for the fourth most saves in a game and marks the second time this season Greier has made 14 saves in a game.

Sage will be back in action on November 1, hosts Elmira College at 7 p.m. in an Empire 8 match-up at UAlbany's Alumni Field. Sage will honor their lone senior in conjunction with Senior Night, Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) on Friday.
