Sage field hockey team rolls to another shutout win

Bryn Athyn, PA—Sage's field hockey team travelled to Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference match-up with Bryan Athyn College. The Gators posted a 5-0 win to improve to 7-7 overall and in the process earned the program's fourth shutout of the year for rookie head coach Tamara Mills.

Junior forward Micalli Johnston (Plattsburgh, NY/Saranac) scored the first goal of the match at the 1:21 mark and then added two assists to help the Gators to the victory.

Sophomore Charity Rushinski (Shusan, NY/Salem Central) added back to back goals both assisted by Johnston before junior Hayley Mato (Copake, NY) added a score to give Sage a 4-0 lead. Rookie Mia Unverzagt (Ellenville, NY/Evansville) closed the Sage scoring with a goal as time expired to seal the team's 5-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) made six saves for the Gators on seven shots faced to improve to 5-7 in goal.

On the season, Rushinski now has 28 points which is second in points with 11 goals and six assists, while Johnston has 27 points and is third in scoring. Johnston has 11 goals with three-game winners and five assists for the 2019 Gators.

Sage will be back in action on October 18 hosting St. John Fisher College in a 7 p.m. Empire 8 match held at UAlbany's Alumni Field next Friday.
